  18. Family Tree of Donna Sears Chernick (Updated June 2005 from Rootsweb.com). Peggy, I have a big book book published by the family of John Jacob Zundel, and also rec'd some data from a Carol McClinton back in 1999: "Family of John Jacob Zundel" prepared and published by Glen F. Harding, M.D. (a great-grandson), p. 320-Chapter XVII Data from Carol McClinton, via e-mail, 29 Oct 1999 (carol@texnet.net) My own connection goes back to John Jacob Zundel (1796-1880) who married Sarah Forstner in 1831, PA. Sarah was the sister of my gg-grandfather, Johann George Forstner, Jr. who married Julia Ann/Julianna Ziegler. John and Sarah (Forstner) Zundel were the first in the Zundel family to join the LDS church. Here are my notes on them: "Family of John Jacob Zundel" p. 361-2 p. 108-119, "Aurora, Their Last Utopia, Oregon's Christian Commune, 1856-1883" by Eugene Edmund Snyder The Zundels came from the village of Wiernsheim, two miles from George Rapp's home at Iptingen, and arrived at the Harmony Society in August 1805. Jakob Zundel was 'converted' by a Mormon missionary in 1836, with the result that he and wife Sarah spent their last years in Utah. Jacob rec'd his Patriarchal Blessing 28 Jan 1837, at Kirtland, Geauga, OH, by Joseph Smith, Sr. He was Endowed in the Nauvoo Temple, Nauvoo, IL, 18 Dec. 1845. Jacob was ordained a Seventy, 26 Apr 1839, at Far West, Caldwell, MO, by Brigham Young. He was also ordained a High Priest. He was a farmer by profession, and last home was in Willard, Box Elder, UT. In 1870, he had a household of five and no wealth. He was a member of the Nauvoo 3rd Ward. Jacob came to Utah in Oct. 1852, with the David Wood company. The Zundel's were among those who helped build the town of Harmony, PA. My own line remained with the Christian Commune group, then led by Dr. Keil, and they went from PA (the earliest members of this group built the town of Harmony, PA, and they were then called "the Harmonist's") to Bethel, MO. My g-grandparents married in Bethel, Shelby Co., MO. From Bethel, they came to Aurora, Oregon, where they had their last settlement. All these places are historical sites now. My g-grandparents, John M. Bier/Sophia Forstner, came to Oregon in 1863 via wagon train with their first child, who was just 6 weeks old. they stayed with the Aurora Colony just 3 years, and left after a fall-out with the leader, but remained in Oregon. My grandfather, (Arthur Julius Bier) was their youngest child (8 children). He married Esta Adaline McReynolds in KS, her home state, but they spent their lives in Oregon, and my mother was their only child. I'm sure the FHL in Salt Lake City must have this Zundel book microfilmed, or in their library there. The Zundel's had a family association involved in this research and spent a lot of time at the Salt Lake Temple doing the temple work on these people. Its a large book, and I have a copy of it. There is a lot of history in this book also. For me, it meant not having to do a lot of genealogy digging in the German areas, and I was happy about that! I consider their research well-done, after having had to do some of the digging on my Bier, Forstner and Ziegler lines. I did not put in all the children of some families that were sidelines to my own lineage. My lines were not LDS till my brothers and I joined in 1951. My grandmother on my father's side had joined the year before we did. Donna Sears Chernick Bellevue, WA donnachernick@earthlink.net.
