Alexander Trent, born 1797 in Virginia. son of William and Charity Burton Osborne
Trent. He married Mary Polly Martin, born 1797. They lived in Hancock County,
TN and farmed. My cousin, Mary Thelma Cloud Odom told Roy and me that she believed
they had slaves. One of these slaves was named Washington James, born 1820 in
Virginia.
In the 1830 census I found Trent, Alexander: 000010001-10000001. In the 1850
census Alexander Trent is listed: Trent, Alexander 52, Mary 52, Elizabeth 24,
Zachariah 22, Pleasant 18, Jesse 12, Madison 9, Washington James 20, T T, Ha-197-29.
Mary Martin was the Dau. of William Martin & Lewey (Lucinda) Burton or Lucinda
Burton. William Martin's will was dated August 4, 1820 in Hawkins Co. Courthouse.
Wit: Francis Winstead
Thomas Martin and James Martin.
Mary's sister, Margaret Martin Md. Ephraim Winstead, son of Francis Winstead.
In Francis Winstead's will, dated September 20, 1842, proven Nov. 7, 1842, he
leaves his daughter-in-law, Margaret Winstead, widow of my son Ephraim Winstead,
all my property - for her kindness and attention. My daughter-in-law Margaret
and my grandson James Winstead to be executrix and executor. Wit: Jesse Cope
Paschal Martin.
In Hawkins Co. Will Book I we find Francis Winstead and Matthew Winstead witnesses
to Eli Overtons will. No date. pg. 392. Francis Winstead and Samuel Burton also
witnesses will of John Croson, dated Feb. 6, 1814. Samuel Burton possibly is
related to Charity Burton and Lucinda, wife of Wm. Martin.
