Fifth Generation

30. Joseph CINK was born on 19 Mar 1823 in Austria. From Carolyn Zaskoda <cfzaskoda@msn.com>:

All I know is that Joseph was born on March 19, 1823, in Austria. The family with three daughters left on the ship Bremen, which arrived in Galveston on May 10, 1871. Aunt Annie said that Victoria died on the trip and was buried at sea, but there is a tombstone with her name on it at the Frelsburg Cemetery. The only thing anyone ever said about that is that it was a marker to identify her. I don't know for sure whether she really died at sea or not. I also do not know where in "Austria" they were from--somewhere in the Czech Republic area though, I presume. They were on the same ship as the elder Wostareks and their family. Uncle Jerry said that Uncle John Wostarek told him that the Wostareks were from Cermy or Cermna or something like that, so I suppose that would be the general area the Cineks could possibly have originated as well. I don't know which spelling is correct, and I have found both on different maps. Your guess is as good as mine.
He immigrated on 10 May 1871. Came to Galveston on the Bark Weser from Bremen, Austria on May 10. 1871. Arrived June 16, 1871. Joseph was 48, and Victoria was 45.
They brought with them their children: Maria, 17, Anna, 14, Amelia, 11 months

He appeared in the census in 1900 in Frelsburg, Colorado County, Texas. Shows him living with his daughter, Amalia and her family. Also, shows his last name to be Cernick but that he didn't speak English.
He died of "surgical shock due to appendicitis" on 19 Jan 1908 in Garwood, Texas. From Carolyn Zaskoda <cfzaskoda@msn.com>:

"I don't have a death certificate for Joseph Cinek, but I do have a copy of the record of his death from the Colorado County Courthouse in Columbus. The Clerk's Number is 540. The date of record is January 23, 1908, and the date of report was January 31, 1908. Joseph Cinek was a white male, age 85 years, 10 months. He was born in Austria. He was a citizen, whose place of residence was Frelsburg. He died in Garwood on January 19, 1908, at 5:00 A.M. of surgical shock due to appendicitis as reported by W.J. Roberts, M.D.
I'm also not sure where this information came from (I think Aunt Annie), but I have that he died at Frank Stokr's home. I thought it was in Frelsburg, but the death record says Garwood. As you can see, it says that he was a citizen. I would suppose that regardless of who he lived with, records of any sort would be in Colorado County somewhere."
Researching: CINK

I am looking for information regarding the Cink family. My relative was Joseph Cink who immigrated from Bohemia. My information says he was born 5-4-1847 Village Chotend Plzen. I have a family history compiled by my Great Uncle Arthur Cink. He told his son Jerry that this Joseph had 3 brothers but when they immigrated, they split up and did not keep in contact, in case one was "caught" they wouldn't all be deported, as they did not know the law in the U.S. We don't have any information to support this. I know that this is the correct surname as my parents have been to the Czech Republic and have seen tombstones with this name.
