Stacy and her husband Elliott were one of the early members of the Enon Church
of Bedford Co, TN. The church minutes from that period were recorded, and later
compiled by Elder Read in 1978. See webpage: http://www.geocities.com/bedfordcounty/enon.html
for more information. The following are the entries in the church minutes concerning
Elliott and Stacy Rucker:
"*Sep 1821 ELLET ROOKER and his wife STACY, received into membership by
experience and baptism.
*Aug 1825 TIMOTHY SUGG is chosen as a deacon and the male members present: LEWIS
HEATH, modorator, THOMPSON FULKS, JOSEPH RUSHING, JOHN RUSHING, JOHN H. SUGG,
ELLIOT RUCKER, TALTON SIMMER, WILLIAM USURY, CHARLES FAIN, TIMOTHY SUGG, ELIJAH
BLACKBURN. TIMOTHY SUGG was chosen as a deacon to replace Brother TYALOR who
had died. Brethren LEWIS HEATH, TIMOTHY SUGG and THOMAS FULKS were appointed
delegates to the association.
*Dec 1829 A committee composed of Brethren NICOL, HEATH, FAIN, FAWLKS and POPE
was appointed to talk to Brother RUCKER about an unspecified charge that had
been brought against him. They were to request Brother RUCKER to attend the next
meeting.
*Jan 1830 The committee appointed to talk to Brother RUCKER made its report and
based upon that report the church agreed to exclude Brother RUCKER for the sin
of drinking and fighting.
*Apr 1835 The church was not at peace because there was a difference existing
between Brethren L. BLACKBURN and BERRY SMITH. A committee was appointed. Brethren
RUSHING, POPE, BYLER, NOWLING, WOODS and NICHOLS were the men appointed. Sisters
BEAVERS, RUCKER, WOOD, COX FAWLKS and RUSHING were also appointed because because
the difference between the brethren was related to a sister in the church. The
committee retired at this time to try to settle the difficulty. They returned
and reported that they had settled the difficulty by excommunicating Brother
BERRY SMITH for the sin of wanting to have carnal knowledge of Sister ELIZABETH
BLACKBURN. The church accepted this." (Stacy was probably the "Sister
Rucker" mentioned above)
Elliott and Stacy was buried at the Enon Church cemetery.
The following info was shared by J. Holman:

mentioned before in this line of Ruckers.

-Mrs. Stacy Rucker died Dec. 8, 1866, about 84 years of age. Buried in Enon
Church Cemetery in Bedford County, TN. near Unionvile.

-From Whitely book:
"1. James, born about 1772 near Kings Mountain, North Carolina, (this obtained
through Nathaniel Rucker). He married a Miss Wheeler, a sister of Stacy Wheeler,
who married Elliott Rucker. I might say here in regard to the Wheeler connection
that these girls were sisters to the following, which the author obtained through
old epistles owned by Judge W.G. Rucker, of Shelbyville, Tennessee. The Wheeler
family migrated to Tennessee about the same time as the Rucker family, having
intermarried and being closely connected. William Wheeler married Elizabeth
____ and moved to Illinois, near Decatur, about 1825, as in a letter from this
William to connevctions in Bedford County, Tennessee, in 1854, he states that
he ha been in Decatur over twenty-five years. A brother of this William was
Thomas Wheeler and his wife was Sarah _____ who were living in Bedford County,
Tennessee, in 1854, and in the same letter is mentioned another brother, James,
and the following sisters in Tennessee: Stacy, who married Elliott Rucker (mentioned
in this list); Sarah, who married a Taylor; Peggy, who married a Farmerl As
James Rucker and his wife lived in Decatur at the time the letter was written,
and as they corrresponded with the Tennessee folks also, the name of the sister
marrying James Rucker is not found, as it is not mentioned in the letter. (later).
2. Wilford married Cloey Taylor, and lived in Bedford County, Tennessee (later).
3. Elliott, married Stacy Wheeler (See James Rucker, brother of Wilford). I
wish to repeat just here a short note from Mr. W.J. Carter, of Decatur, Illinois,
whom you will find descended from the Rucker family. Mr. Carter's statement
is as follows: "Mrs. Martha Hanie Wharton, of Woodbury, Tennessee, now
in her 80th year, informs me through recent correspondence that her grandfather,
Thomas Wheeler, was a brother to Stacy Wheeler, and the sister that married James
Rucker. Mrs. Wharton states further that her father,m Dave Wheeler, visited
this Uncle William Wheeler, Sr. in Decatur, Illinois, during the winter of 1860
and 1861, William Wheeler, Jr., being sheriff of Macon County at that time.
She remembers also of her father often speaking of Sam Wheeler and his cousin,
Judge Rucker.
It is a well known fact that this William Wheeler, Sr., is a brother of our James
Wheeler, the father of Hiram, Larkin, Washington, Elliott and Mrs. Charley Wheeler;
the mother of Alph Warren, Mollie, James and Doc Wheeler, whom you all know so
well. By establishing this brother and sister relationsh as shown above you
can readily figure that William Wheeler, Sr., the father of ex-Sheriff William
Wheeler, Jr., was an uncle of our grandfathers, John and William Rucker, while
Hiram, Larkin, Wash, Elliott and Mrs. Charley Wheeler were cousins" (later)."
-From Phil Wheeler:
STACY WHEELER (1785-1866) (John)
Stacy Wheeler was born about 1785 in North Carolina, the daughter of John Wheeler.
She married Elliott Rucker. Elliott Rucker of Bedford County, Tennessee sold
land on Alexanders Creek to Jeremiah B. Boothe on 10 August 1835 (Book GG, p.
70). Alexanders Creek was named after Ebeneezer Alexander the original owner
of the property. The name Alexander appears in the family, but no link has been
made to this family.
Stacy Rucker passed away in 1866 in Bedford County, Tennessee.
-Blair Wheeler sent the following excerpt from the book History of the Rucker
Family by Edith Rucker Whitely, and in the possession of Jean Holman:
"Elliott (Rucker, son of Mordecai) married Stacy Wheeler. I wish to repeat
here just a short note from Mr. C. J. Carter of Decatur, Illinois, whom you will
find descended from the Rucker family. Mr. Carters statement is as follows:
"Mrs. Martha Hanie Wharton, of Woodbury, tennessee, now in her 80th year,
informs me through recent correspondence that her grandfather, Thomas Wheeler
was a brother of Stacy Wheeler, and the sister that married James Rucker. Mrs.
Wharton further states that her father Dave Wheeler visited his Uncle William
Wheeler, Sr. in Decatur, Illinois during the winter of 1860-61. William Wheeler,
Jr. being sheriff of Macon County at that time. She remembers also of her father
often speaking of Sam Wheeler and his cousin Judge Rucker.
"It is a well known fact that this William Wheeler, Senior is a brother
of our James Wheeler, the father of Hiram, Larkin, Washington, Elliott and Mrs.
Charley Wheeler, the mother of Alph Warren, Mollie, James and Doc Wheeler whom
you all know so well. By establishing the brother and sister relationship as
shown above, you can readily figure that William Wheeler, Sr., the father of
ex-sheriff William Wheeler, Jr. was an Uncle of our grandfathers John and William
Rucker, while Hiram, Larkin, Wash, Elliott and Mrs. Charley Wheeler were cousins."
