16. Sterling NEWSOM⁶ was born in Jan 1832 in Tennessee. He appeared in the census in 1840 in Bedford County, Tennessee. He appeared in the census in 1850 in Bedford County, Tennessee. From this it appears that Randolph was his father and that his mother had died recently. Possibly something to do with the birth of the 4 mo old twins? He appeared in the census in 1860 in Bedford County, Tennessee. Sterling is shown here living in the home of Randolph Newsom. If this was his father (could have been an uncle, etc.), I don't believe the wife to be his mother. He appeared in the census in 1870 in Shelbyville, Bedford County, Tennessee. Shows him as a boarder with his sister, Elizabeth. He died on 31 May 1910 in Tarrant County, Texas.⁷ Peggy Newsom: From the Widow's Application for Confederate Pension dated 13 Jul 1928.
