On Sep 1777 Nathaniel Carlisle bought 150 acres in District 10 Halifax Co., NC from Joseph Whealis for 53 pounds 6 shillings 8 pense, joining Breeches Swamp, John Marshall, & Joseph Wales. (Different spelling of Wheless but probably same person). In his will this was lent to his widow then son, Jesse received it, but he must care for his mother Lydia.

Iles Cooper of Halifax Co. to Nathaniel Carlisle of same. 28 Apr 1899. 115 silver dollars. 65 acres, joining middle prong of Turkey Branch. Iles Cooper. Wit: Jonathan Edwards, William Herbert, Nancy (x) Cooper. May Ct 1800 L. Long CCT. In his will, son Chambliss was to receive this land.

I Nathaniel Carlisle of the State of North Carolina in the County of Halifax being weak in body but of Sound mind and Memory, praise be to god for the same but calling to mind that it is appointed for all flesh to Dec do this 2nd of October A.D. one thousand eight hundred and seven do make & ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner __ ____following. 1st I Lend unto my beloved wife Lidda Carlisle the plantation where I now live. Containing one hundred and fify acres be the same more or less during her natural life or widowhood. Also the stock of horses cattle hogs & sheep to remain on the plantation during my Wife's natural life or widowhood. If____ do not ____ to be ____ it is to be sold after my wife's death. At the day of the sale I give five dollars to my son Richard Carlisle.Item: I give five dollars to my son James Carlisle.Item: I give five dollars to my daughter Polly Daniels at the day of the sale.Item: five shillings to my Grandson Guilford Whelass, five shillings to my Grandson Benjamin Butts.Item: I give & bequeth to my son William Carlisle one _____ bridle & saddle at his freedom.Item: I give unto my son Joel Carlisle one bridle & saddle at his freedom.Item: I give unto my son Chamblous a tract a parcel by the name of the Turkey field containing sixty five acres. Be the same more or less to rec at his freedom. Item: I give unto my son Nathaniel Carlisle a tract a parcel of land by the name of the Old Orchard containing fifth acres be the same more or less to be rec by him at his freedom. I give unto my son Jesse a tract a parcel of land where I now live which I lent to my Wife. He is to receive it at her death or if she marries & if my wife never marries & lives ______comes of age he is to maintain his mother.Item: Chamblous, Rebecca, Nathaniel, Sally, & Jesse is to have a year schooling each or the worth of it out of my estate.Item: I give to my daughter Rebecca one bed & furniture, one cloak & saddle to be received at her freedom or marriage.Item: I give unto my daughter Sally one bed & furniture, one Cloak & saddle to be recd at her marriage or freedom. Also what money I have after what money is due me to be collect by my Execators & buy from & get _____ _____ for the Land. It is not to be sold _____ _____ _____. After the death of my wife anything remains there to be a sale & all be sold & equally divided between John, Nancy, Billy, Joel, Chamblous, Rebecca, N athaniel, Sally, & Jesse. I nominate &_____mt trusty Friend John Herbert and my beloved wife Lidda Executors to this my said Will and Testament. Signed Sealed & delivered in the presence of Nathaniel Carlisle (Seal) Kinchen (his mark) Joiner, Whelas Halifax County, August Session 1812. Then this Will was Exhibited in open court & duly proved by the oath of Kinchen Whelas one of the subscribing Witnesses therein & on motion ordered to be Received. Whereupon John Herbert & Lidda Carlisle the Exector & Exectrix therein name came into this court Were duly qualifed to the same. Witness: H. L.Irwin cc
